That way I would have ESR as a security blanket to fall back on whenever I have trouble learning to use Quantum. So I'm wondering if it's possible to run Firefox Quantum and Firefox ESR simultaneously on the same PC during the transition period. But from past experience with FF upgrades, I dread having to cope with learning a new interface, losing my addons, having my settings scrambled or deleted, etc. I certainly don't like the inconvenience of more and more often having to switch to Chrome to view web sites that ESR can't display properly, so I guess I should give Quantum a try. Do you think that might be the reason ESR froze up on me while I was trying to make that payment? I seem to recall reading somewhere that many web sites that process financial transactions are now refusing access from older browsers. I called the bank to ask them to cancel the second payment, but they told me that nothing could be done until the payments were "posted," which could take up to 48 hours. In the morning I looked at my online checking balance and saw that two identical payments to my credit card were listed as "processing." This was in the evening so the bank customer service was closed and I had to wait until the next morning to call the bank to find out if the problem was on their end. So I made a second attempt to pay the bill, but again the page froze up at the same point in the transaction. So I closed that tab, and re-visited the banking web site from a new tab, and found that my credit card bill still showed as owing with the same balance due, and no record of my attempted payment. The page became completely unresponsive after I clicked the "confirm payment" button, and didn't provide me with a payment confirmation number as it had always done in the past. Then, a couple of nights ago ESR froze up while I was paying my credit card bill via an online banking web site that I've been using for years to pay my bills. For a long while now I've been running Firefox ESR (currently version 52.8.1 (32-bit)).īut lately ESR has had problems displaying certain web pages correctly and I've had to resort to running Google Chrome in order to view these web pages.
